The province of Rovigo is completely flat and limited on its borders
by the river Adige in the North and by the river Po in the South.
It is extended on approximately 1.800 square km and has 243.000 inhabitants.
It is administratively subdivided in 50 municipalities and it is characterised
by the diversity and irregularity in the distribution of population on
the territory. Among the 50 municipalities, in fact, the administrative
centre has 51.000 inhabitants, other 5 towns have more than 10.000 inhabitants;
4 have more than 5.000 inhabitants, the remaining 40 municipalities are
under 5.000 inhabitants, even if they have 39% of the population.
If in the past the lack of adequate structures, roads above all, has
affected the economical growth, now the territory of the province of Rovigo
represents the area for the development of connections between Italy and
East Europe countries and it is ready to perform an important role in
the interchange of goods between North Europe and Mediterranean countries.
