It is bound to the peculiarities of the territory and it is distinguished
by a significant presence of agriculture and a diffused secondary sector,
based on small and minute companies.
The primary sector is a fundamental component for the provincial economy,
representing 6,6% of the provincial PIL (against a regional average of
2,7%) and characterised by a mix of varieties (corn, wheat, soy, beet),
by a good presence of fruit, intensive horticulture and by the growth
of areas dedicated to rice cultivation.
The primary sector is enriched in the delta territory by professional
fishing activities (fish markets of Pila, Scardovari, Porto Viro), valley
culture and lagoon culture.
The spinneret of fishing, consisting of professional fishing activities
and of companies operating in the sectors of transformation and distribution
of fishy products, represents a peculiarity in the Polesine economy, recognised
by the Venetian Region through regional law 8/2003, when it established
the "Fishy sector district of the province of Rovigo".
Regarding the secondary sector, great importance has the artisanship,
which has 7.600 companies out of 28.500 active companies registered at
the Chamber of Commerce and where the main part is composed of food, wood,
furniture and fashion manufacturers. During the time these sectors have
been expanded with innovative branches, like mechanic and electronic.
The pre-eminently sector is represented by the construction of carousels,
travelling shows, equipment for fun-fairs, fireworks. These activities
are diffused in the west area of the province of Rovigo, above all in
the towns of Melara and Bergantino, and the complex of them constitute
the Venetian district of carousel.
The industrial sector is developed in various sectors and registers
the presence of leading companies, like: RPM by Riello Group for electric
motors; Cargill in the field of amid for food and industrial use; Visentini
shipyard; Bassano Grimeca world leader in the production of rims for motorcycles;
Grandi Molini first exporter in the world of wheat flour; Incold and Intrac
in the freeze industry; Bormioli Group in the glass processing; Socotherm
by Soave group, world leader in anticorrosive products for interred and
undersea ducts; Marcegaglia Group in the tourism field.
Besides the tertiary, it is worth to signal the touristy sector today
focused on first level services and for this reason interested by growth
processes. It is especially developed in the area of Rosolina Mare with
a great potential in the area of Delta of Po, where the natural resources
and landscapes can favour a new model of development, tied to territory
and environment, countersigning the life quality level.
